In our final hour, we welcome back to the show Prof. Matt Goldish (Melton Center for Jewish Studies, Ohio State University). He's done the research, taught the courses, and has written the book on Shabtai Zevi (Sabbatean Prophets is available on Amazon.com). He helps us to plot the rise and fall of the modern era's most famous false messiah - and how the echoes of his exploits reverberate to this day. (September 28, 2011)

Jaffa. The name conjurs up images of mystery, Jonah's voyage read on Yom Kippur, the port of entry into the Land of Israel and the timbers for the Temple; leading to modern Israel's cultural center, Tel Aviv. What made Jaffa tick? What still lies underground? Prof. Aaron Burke of UCLA takes us into Jaffa's rich history, reviving 50-year old excavations and the ongoing exciting discoveries of today. Jaffa. In our last segment, Jim Long, Max Richardson, Eve Harow and David Willner head up north for another Road Trip. This time, we're off to the Shomron (Samaria) for a visit to the altar on Har Eval (Mt. Ebal), where Prof. Adam Zertal of Haifa University excavated a site he contends is from the time the Israelites entered the Land of Israel after the Exodus. The dating is controversial, identifications problematic, but the site is dazzling, provocative - and yes - even awe inspiring. We'll even get Barnea's thoughts on the Shomron as he journey's through the north of Israel. (September 14, 2011)

In this last segment, we've got a short interview with Congressman Joe Walsh (R Illinois) as he talks about the current US/Israel relationship - and gulf dividing the House and Senate's commitment to Israel - and the Obama Administration's antipathy. To round things out, we have a modern medrash for you - The Six Days and the Seven Gates, written by Yitzhaq Navon, former president of Israel. (August 31, 2011)
In our second hour, we're off on another Road Trip - this time to the Temple Mount Sifting Project in Emek Tzurim. We'll hear archaeologist Frankie Snyder as she explains the project to her group - and then get some reactions from Dr. Kenny Elman (Los Angeles) and his daughters Elizabeth and Naomi. (August 31, 2011)
Second part of the first hour, we meet Rabbi Dr. Ari Zivotofsky - the "other Ari". Together with Ari Greenspan, he's the other half of "Ari & Ari" who have been working to preserve the mesorot of Kosher animals that are in danger of being lost. He reviews some of the issues regarding kosher birds, fish and locusts. He shares with us some of his research work at Bar Ilan University studying the human brain - and a recent study on how fasting might diminish cognitive ability - a serious issue for soldiers, doctors and others involved in life and death issues. Second part of our second hour, we meet Mr. Larry Zeifman. He's been active in Jewish communal work for many years. He reviews modern Canandian history and how Canada, under prime-minsister Steven Harper has become Israel's primary friend in the world arena. And at a time when Israel is under attack seemingly from all sides, Canada has taken the unpopular - but moral position in defense of the Jewish state. (August 23, 2011)

This week on LandMinds, we meet Rabbi Eliyahu Soloveitchik. He's put together a conference (Sunday August 29th in Jerusalem) that will explore how archaeology and history can be used to enhance Hareidi education. This could represent a watershed event in Hareidi education - but the risk of a negative reaction are equally high. This is a rare glimpse into the Hareidi world and should not be missed. In our last segment, we're on the road to Herzeliya where Barnea interviews one of the world's great collectors of Judaica - Mr.Shlomo Moussaieff. This short segment is a little rough around the edges, but will definitely give you a peek into one of the more colorful personalities in the Jewish world today. (August 16, 2011)
In the third of 3 segments we welcome into the studio Rabbi Dr. Ari Greenspan, DDS. Ari takes on a virtual tour - first tackling the thorny topic of Kosher species - animals, fowl, fish, and insects. You'll learn about the identifying features of each. Then we head to Europe for a tour through some of Jewry's older cities - many of which no longer have any Jews living in them - put possessing hidden treasures - if you know how to look. His website www.halachicadventures.com is worth a visit. (And, if you want to show some love to the good doctor, you can friend him on his facebook page "Dr. Ari Greenspan" - he'll be very grateful).
