The latest advances in archaeology are being made by employing state of the art techniques on site during and at the actual excavation! Professor Steve Weiner of the Kimmel Center for Archaeological Science, Weizmann Institute of Science, leads this effort in coordination with his scientific team and archaeologists from across the country - at Ashkelon, Gat Megiddo and more.  As materials are exposed and come out of the ground, samples are places in test tubes and subjected to cutting edge examinations, thus guiding the excavators what do to do right then and there. The amount of information gleaned is multiplied as well. One example of course correction on site appeared in this recent New York Times article.  Prof. Weiner calls the overall approach "microarchaeology", and authored “Microarchaeology: Beyond the Visible Archaeological Record” Cambridge University Press, 2010. This firsthand report states the case so clearly, the opening words actually assume and employ this paradigm shift as if it was always how to do archaeology! Consider joining their archaeological field school this summer!  he latest advances in archaeology are being made by employing state of the art techniques on site during and at the actual excavation!
